Transforming an existing parkade for stromwater mitigation.

The intent of this project was to gain a better understanding of the approach and implementation of stormwater management at the site-scale. Using existing parkades on the UBC campus, we were challenged with creating a stormwater reduction plan that would mitigate risk, respect the natural hydrology of the campus, and foster social engagement in the public realm.
Using a stormwater calculator developed by Daniel Roehr and Kevin Kong, students were able to create calculations for total runoff, roof mitigation potential, and irrigation requirements necessary for their specific site. With UBC’s intention for future transit expansion the adaptive reuse of parkade roofs on campus plays a pivotal role in the green building plan of the future.
